Wood chisels regularly found on the market are generally made for common use. Often manufactured with synthetic handle and long steel blade, they are strong and low cost; however, due to their different steel quality, they require frequent sharpening. Unfortunately, it is pretty rare to work always in perfect wood. Knots, glue joints and other wood defects are rather common in a piece of wood and can quickly ruin a recently sharpened chisel.

For the professionals who are tired of repetitive sharpening, we offer this elegant wood chisel “Oire Nomi” set that provides all inherent features of what Japan makes the best. 

• Made according to the Japanese tradition, they are hand-forged i.e. the shape is made from hammering instead of ground.
• The shank and the body are made of softer steel for toughness. The back is laminated with very hard steel “White Paper” of 63-64 RC hardness that offers a superior cutting performance.
• Another particularity, the back is hollow ground to speed flattening. The blade has also tapered sides to prevent the chisel from jamming in tight cuts.
• Made from red oak, the handle is designed to well fit in the hand. It is also equipped with a steel hoop to avoid wood splitting under the impact of a mallet. (One must take note that they might require to be “mushroomed” i.e. hammered on the top of the handle in order to maintain the hoop in place and keep full contact with the wood).
• Although most new wood chisels require to be sharpened after purchase, these Oire Nomi can be used immediately right out the box. When required, we do recommend the use of a 1000/6000 combination grit water stone for an optimal sharpening.

Supplied in an original wood box, this set includes 5 chisels with 225 mm total length and 60 mm long blade of the following sizes; : 6 mm (1/4"), 9 mm (3/8"), 18 mm (3/4"), 24 mm (1") et 30 mm (1-3/16").
