Are your cutting tools properly balanced?

The calibration of cutting tools is of the utmost importance. Unbalanced or improperly balanced tools can cause vibrations that affect the finish of the parts being cut. In addition, poor balancing will shorten the lifespan of the ball bearings and other precision components of the machine, whether it is a moulder, a tenoner, a numerical control machine or any other equipment.

For instance, a single gram, which is equivalent to about half the weight of a dime, subjected to a 6000 rpm bearing will cause an imbalance comparable to a load of over 20 pounds.

All carbide and diamond tools offered at Normand are thoroughly inspected and calibrated. If you wish to profile your own corrugated knives, make sure to use an accurate scale at 1/10 of a gram to ensure that your knives are of equal weight. Since corrugated heads are subject to balancing during manufacturing, the assembling of well-fitted knives will ensure excellent balance.

At Normand, we can meet all your cutting tool needs.
